Congrats to Senior Advisor Peach Soltis, who is joining the Department of Labor as Counselor to the Secretary. You will be missed, but I am excited to see the great work you will do for this Administration and American workers.

I can’t think of a better person to lead my former agency.  While is sad to lose her talents we are excited she will be using them to serve the public and this Administration. Congrats !

Today, I am excited to join the Biden-Harris Administration as the Director of OFCCP at DOL. The President has made a historic commitment to tackling systemic racism, and our nation has an unprecedented opportunity to build a more equitable future for workers across America.

Yesterday, I walked past the messages chalked along the sidewalk. I moved among an amazing and beautiful crowd of people in their masks. It pushed back the dark just a little bit, for an hour or two. So I could keep doing my part. One last gift from RBG.

Even before 2020, even before January 2017, what we have won is not enough. We need to fight for women’s rights, for racial justice, for trans rights, for economic security, for human rights. And we have to do it in the face of an unrelenting assault on these same human rights.

As a law student I read the cases that RBG brought and won, and I got to watch one of my heroes get to the highest court in the land. Unlike my mom, I was able to start my career, my family and my work for justice on top of many victories she and others had already won.

Growing up, I watched my mother fight to change outdated laws in Indiana that limited women’s property rights. I watched her speeches, read her pamphlets, went with her to knock doors. Mom's the original “femlaw”-- feminist lawyer -- even if she doesn’t tweet.

I’m a second-generation feminist lawyer, who went to law school to fight for women’s rights. I went because of my mother – who was at home with two small kids in the early 1970s when RBG was just starting the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU.

Yesterday I went down to the Supreme Court to pay my respects to Justice Ginsburg, a woman who has inspired me for two decades. Since I heard the news, I've been feeling sad and angry, and adding it to the accumulating grief, loss, trauma and anger of our present moment.
