Iโ€™m working on a syllabus for a doctoral seminar and itโ€™s titled โ€œTheories of Public and Communityโ€ in Information Studies. Looking for books and articles centering BIPOC/queer/marginalized perspectives. Recommendations super appreciated here. TY!

It's easy to gentle parent when you see your children as developing humans deserving of dignity and respect at their little age.

For some people, talking about salary is "taboo" or "tacky". But thankfully, younger generations are breaking down these barriers. It's important to talk about salaries to close pay gaps based on gender, race, and other socio-demographic factors. washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/0 5/

I truly want to know more about the center/right psychology of "I hate these people and wish them harm but also why don't they like me more???"

Hot take: itโ€™s morally wrong for rights of minorities to be democratically voted on, bc we shouldnโ€™t be giving the electorate the right to prevent or remove other peopleโ€™s rights. We shouldnโ€™t have to โ€˜win hearts & mindsโ€™ to prove weโ€™re worthy of basic dignity

Thing is, it can be an accurate description of behavior we find harmful. It's not an *empty* accusation. It's saying, "We don't like you because of this cluster of actions you do." You want "neutral" to mean "no one has a right to reject me/my ideas because I am neutral!"

This same flaw that is contained in Huertas's original piece is replicated in his response to me. His defense begins by insisting that the term is not an epithet, but a neutral description of an ideological tendency:

Debating whether or not Republicans *really* want to erect a cruel regime of merciless white patriarchal dominance is futile. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is the state level: Wherever they are in charge, they are embracing an authoritarian vision of society.
