I don't think he's scared of appearing vulnerable to a deadly virus, he's scared of admitting he messed up, more lives have been lost because Trump can't say "my bad" than anyone will ever be able to accurately calculate. It's one of a handful of pathological issues he has.
Imagine being so scared of appearing vulnerable (to a deadly virus) that you're willing to potentially hurt yourself, or others — or even die — to keep up the masquerade.

The masks aren’t intended to protect you from the virus but are intended as a preventative measure to help protect those around you. Obviously Donald Trump is a very narcissistic person, so it’s no surprise he wouldn’t wear a mask.

This is about his bronzer and spray tan. The vulnerability bit is cover by his followers so it doesn’t seem like people are needlessly dying just because their manly leader wears cheap makeup.
