Read @laura_hudson spectacular takedown of Ernest Cline's novel Ready Player One and the harmful philosophy at its core, which, unfortunately, is also the harmful philosophy at the core of so much that has shaped the internet as it exists today.https://twitter.com/verge/status/986907323338764288 …

RPO shows an nachronistic and optimistic version of the web. Why wouldn't it? Why is it be bad to remember people today what the vision behind the web was 20 or 30 years ago. Being whoever you want without discrimination is not how today's www works, but how it should work!

Given that the book is fictional entertainment, it's not harming anyone with any"philosophies". If you want to spend your time making up stuff about it , cool, but you are the only ppl seeing the book this way.

It would be, if it didn’t have to fib about its subject matter to get there. Instead of realizing our entire culture is set up with exclusionary gatekeeping from cultural references to licensing for dishwashers, all social circles have gates which may or may not be fair.

One thing that is very true if you bothered to read the book: You could give no care to Halliday and reap rewards in a society in the OASIS which had what you wanted. No movie memorization required.

What happened to the Feminist Frequency which critiqued by exploring rather than blanket condemnation? Whichout bothering to see the media you’re even criitiquing, you call it disgusting and blame it for... Zuckerberg? What foes Halliday have to do with Zuckerberg?
