In this week's brand new FFR, Carolyn tells us all about her experiences wading through the pop culture sludge of Ready Player One, and we discuss the troubling Trumpian politics of ABC's Roseanne revival. Oh my god Can you guys find some other way to make a living, rather than applying out-of-touch academics towards imaginary issues with art?

You spelt *manipulative diction* wrong 😯 And you’re right - the experts are feminist frequency I already pressed F for you but go ahead and try to explain how searching out “troubling trumpian” themes in a film fits in philosophy at all. Imo FF spits on those 3 you mentioned

Trumpian themes in Rosanne the TV series you mean 😉 that's because that's what the show is about this time round and they speak a lot sense about that issue. It helps you actually engage with content and not just bash it because youur warped sense of masculinity is threatened 😉

Lol you know a person is real good at debate when they go after the characteristics that THEY made up. Oh nice. Well I’ll be honest with you, I thought they were going after Ready Player One

Well it kind of plays true to my point though, you attacked them because they are feminists? You didn't listen to the podcast but yet form an opinion on what information? Don't you see the problem with that?

And it's ok for you to have a different opinion as long as it's based in fact and not just because "they are feminists"

But again, like the third time you’ve assumed something about me. I’m not sure you know how to turn it off. I attacked them because I saw what I thought was a pic from the movie, I’ve been a follower for a long time and read their material.

You guys should have actually watched the movie before sounding off on it. This podcast was insulting to the idea of critique. Just piling on is not critique.

Talking about racism in RP1 and ignoring the first chapter of the book where he does face these issues... That's why avatars were limited to pre-existing sets. Second Life already exists and already dealt with these problems for 15 years. Yet you talk about VR Chat? Yuck.

Every mature virtual world has come to some set of moderation or solutions. Every world came up with their own: 'There' policed uploads before you could put them in world. They had constant word-search and path-blocking detection algorithms along with active moderation.

Second Life uses rating systems, 'experiences' with limited approved model sets, uploads have to be paid for, along with three tiers of moderation from parcel to global. They have other systems I can't even mention yet!

Blizzard uses crowd-sourced flagging tagged with user-level muting along with system-level checks for hacks - and they don't let you upload anything. mTV had a similar system bought from Linden Lab where all avatars and attachments had to be pre-approved. Pre-moderated.

Just the weakness of this one podcast disappoints me. There is a huge world out there of possibilities and to critique this movie without watching? Ugh. There are issues with gatekeeping but violence spawns regardless; RP1 is no different than Shakespeare academs going at it.

Good episode! Though I overall enjoyed watching RPO, I'm so glad you covered how problematic it was and how it could have dealt with the (bad) book material better if only they had tried/cared. Also, nailed exactly why watching the new Roseanne felt so frustrating.

Really...? Because a lot of strong women were in that movie. And I think your just hating it because you can’t enjoy what a beautiful rush it was to see our childhoods reignited.
