I appreciate the nuance and clarification in @ebonyaster, @carolynmichelle, and @anitasarkeesian's argument on VG's, but it still doesn't hold water for the same reason. VG's don't create a "culture of" violence / sexism / entitlement either. If anything, just the opposite ...

It's a form of escapism that actually sates that need and reduces actual violence / sexism in the real world, rather than perpetuates it. The data is pretty clear on that. It's why prisoners are given games, to give them something to do so they don't get bored and riot ...

Those individuals who commit violence / sexism likely have other deeper issues from prior root causes. Some of those are genetic, some are environmental. The fact that different people can see the same media and respond differently says more about the viewer than the media ...

Regarding Caro's Tibetan monks, I agree they'd likely be horrified by Doom, but you DO realize there are also violent radical Buddhists, right? And it's not from video games, clearly. So there's nuance even in that ...

In terms of values, I would look up r/K gene selection theory. The r-genes would be like you guys who value peace and love and non-violence, and that's well and good in certain situations where maintaining stability is necessary to thrive:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8N3FF_3KvU …

In contrast, the K-genes value security, wariness, and a use of violence to survive in a violent, chaotic world. Human societies require both sets of genes, and these actually affect people's individual temperaments, and even their politics are highly correlated with it.
