I especially enjoyed our talk about grid girls/booth babes and “choice feminism” this week, give it a listen!

I wanna rant about this so badly, but I think it might be more productive for you to solicit the opinions of the actual women who HELD those jobs directly and see if they view this as a step forward or a step back. I'm guessing most don't see it as libertartng.

The reason being is, in your zeal for idealism, you forgot to account for real world consequences. Sort of like the minimum wage. Yeah, it's great you want them to have hire wages, but it ignores the fact that employers will simply fire those who don't produce enough value.

The reason this is harmful is because the people at the bottom are at the bottom because their choices are limited and you just took away one more. It may be a shitty choice, but it's a lot better than nothing and could even be a path towards something less shitty.

As far as beauty, I wrote an article talking about that (and other stuff): https://www.darknessfiles.com/single-post/2018/01/04/Stop-Lying-to-Yourself … If you could snap your fingers and be the ideal, most people would in a heartbeat. People settle for less only because they have to, not because it's what they truly want ...

... so like in your case, Caro, if you could snap your fingers and have passing privilege, you know you would. I wish you could too. I wish everyone could be their ideal self, but only technology can make that happen in reality. 😥 Dem-Soc Marxist Int-Feminism can't.

It's not enough to tell people no, because their natural inclination is to resist. You have to offer them a positive alternative in clear, specific detail, with actionable steps in exchange. Part of the reason systemic oppression exists is because no one has anything better.

I appreciate that ya'll watch the bad movies so I don't have to haha. But I do like the focus on a given theme. The discussion on booth babes/grid girls and choice feminism--which I hadn't heard of before--was educational.

The idea of loosely connected sci-fi franchises, made me think about the Hainish novels written by Ursula K Le Guin and the way she portrays different and diverse life forms from distant planets in the same universe. Great show!

¡Good ep! That discussion about Sci-Fi females and their not having children issues reminds me of Age of Ultron and how Black Widow considers herself a monster because she can’t have kids, that was a super frustrating scene

Right after she relays the details of being sterilized she says “¿still think you’re the only monster on the team?”, implying she thinks of her inability to have kids as monstrous.https://youtu.be/eUosv677ucA

I’m not saying that this is definitely what the movie is saying, it was my reaction when I saw it though, which rubbed me the wrong way. Could have been solved with one more line that aligns her thoughts with your reading of it. Obviously your reading of it is more desirable.

Loved the episode. Sorry for the trolls commenting @ebonyaster: I also hate the Gilmore Girls. You are not alone. @anitasarkeesian: have you watched the remake of @OneDayAtATime? Would love to hear your POV about the show and its representation of racial/gender/culture issues.
