IMHO, I think the interesting thing about this trilogy is that Rey, as a woman, isn't subject to the same corruption that turned Darth Vader and Kylo Ren to the dark side. Hear me out.

What turns people to the dark side? It's not the allure of power. As Yoda said, it's fear, anger, rage. Negative emotions. Emotions that, if left bottled up, can consume and destroy the people who feel them. Or rather, refuse to feel them. Refuse to acknowledge they feel them.
-
Toxic Masculinity is still quite present within the Star Wars universe. Toxic masculinity tells men, they aren't allowed to feel fear. They aren't allowed to be vulnerable. They are only allowed to feel negative emotions like anger and hate. All of which leads to suffering.
-
Suffering, leads to the dark side.
-
Rey is different. Rey, as a woman isn't subject to the demands of Toxic Masculinity. She is able to feel weakness, fear, anger, suffering. To feel these things, to acknowledge their presence and accept them. She cries. She suffers. She moves past it.
-
This is obviously a lot to do with her own strength of character, but in the end, one can only be so strong. Anakin. Ben. Rey. They're all extremely powerful force users. Anakin and Ben were unable to deal with their fear and were corrupted in their suffering. Rey won't be.
-
Eventually, I think this might be what allows Ben/Kylo Ren to return to the light side. That she might help him acknowledge and accept his vulnerability, his fear, and validate it. She is likely the only one who can understand what he is going through.
-
I think that would be an incredibly powerful feminist message. I really hope that's where they're going.

You don't even say anything about rebels or clone wars. You not a fan of star wars so leave it alone
-
Dude, Rebels is kind of meh and Clone Wars is straight up boring as hell. Why would anyone mention them? They're awful. (except that 2D animated one that you weren't referring too. That one was SO AWESOME )

@carolynmichelle correcting@anitasarkeesian at the end really cracked me up. But above all, it’s a good eye opener. Highly recommend it. - 1 more reply

She's the worst character, though. She sucks.

Before I listen to this, I’m going to assume your timeline starts with: problematic, then criticizes Max Landis of Sexism for suggesting that Rey is too powerful and ending with it’s a lot better, but “we still have a long way to go”.

This time we have three women in the main cast: Rey, Leia, and Rose, who is a woman AND Asian. And I think there's a 4th woman who works with Leia in the Resistance. Slowly but surely, progress is being made. Let's just hope they're written well.
