Even before I realized how transphobic they were, I hated "gender reveal parties" because they're inherently sexist. All those parties do is reinforce tired old gender stereotypes that are entirely manufactured.

At its core, transphobia is sexist. So that’s not surprising.
-
How is a gender reveal party sexist can I please ask
-
It’s not explicitly or intentionally sexist (unless it is), but it invites, encourages, and reinforces gendered stereotypes that (generally speaking) benefit men and harm women.
-
And for people who are trans or nonbinary, enforcing those stereotypes based on visible physical traits enforces the idea that there is a “right” choice for each child’s gender, before they’ve even been born.
-
It places undue emphasis on the child’s genitalia as a determinant if interests, aptitude, and career, instead of celebrating the child’s full potential.
-
There’s ways to mitigate the problems, but the celebration of the reveal itself is inherently problematic. Just have a baby shower.
-
Which stereotypes did you mean and also trans people aren’t trans all of their cells are that of the gender they were assigned

If I have a kid I'll host a species-reveal party. If it's a human the balloons are purple and if it's a possum they're gr-WAIT IS THAT A GUN
-
Yes. The baby is obviously a Wild West Outlaw.
-
That's my favorite gender!

Not everyone who celebrates genetic gender is transphobic- seriously, people get excited about anything to do with their baby- that’s ok.

How are gender reveals in any way, shape, or form, proof that parents fear trans people? That’s an ignorant claim.
-
Exactly- as long as they stay open to their child’s own opinion they are doing the right thing and celebrating what they know now.
-
Absolutely

It's so creepy to be like "ITS A PENIS!" Or "ITS A VAGINA!" For an unborn child and to throw a party in which people celebrate that by giving these gifts to coerce them into a behavioral box before they're even self aware beyond feeding.
