I'm Latino. I don't care if I'm called Hispanic and it is dumb reason to get offended by this

Legit Q for anyone: "latinx/latina/latino" are also clearly tied to language and European in origin. So why prefer them over "hispanic?"

Maybe because it includes Brazil? Hispanic only covers Spanish speaking peoples

Reasonable. My curiosity comes from criticism of "hispanic" as being too colonialist, but "latinx" doesn't seem intuitively less so.

It Isn't any less colonialist. I don't think it was well though out to be honest. Maybe they don't know what Latin is?

I've always used my country of origin. Abiding by a US conception of everyone that originates or descends from LA folks as monolithic is dum

I get that 100%. But it at least seems from the outside that there's some sense of a pan-latin-american identity that "latinx" is used for.

damn, way to erase the identities of those in the community that don't have latin american roots. this is extremely divisive.

Yo soy latino, ¿que son estas babosadas gringas? ¿Que importa que le llaman a un latino? Y no existe latín-equis, eso no es una palabra.
