Sadly the deeply racist exotification of women of color in games continues in the reveal trailer for Strange Brigade. This is unacceptable.pic.twitter.com/thl5sBN3XQ

Three games used as proof of devs promoting "white beauty standards" were made entirely in Japan. Ignorance of your subject matter showing.

I'm friends with one of the digital artists working on this game. She said the character was based off of research into Ethiopian culture.

(cont'd) that's not to say the game can't be racist, but it's rash to call her character design "exotified" when it might be accurate.

Ethiopian culture, interesting. Can the artist speak further to this, are they on twitter or other social media?

Aka historical accuracy is bad and should never be used because it shows the bad things of the past

So it is the official position of @femfreq that African-like or similar cultures should not be represented in video games. That seems racist

Are you saying fantasy settings can only reference cultures perfectly and to the letter? That seems creatively stifling and lazy.

What's lazy is this character's design. It's not unique, it's stereotypical and offensive.
