The slew of perfect scores BOTW received from critics shows that most still don't give a damn about how women are represented in games.

Critics might call out sexism in games with bad gameplay but often act as if it’s not worth mentioning when the gameplay is great. It is.
-
There is so much to admire in BOTW. Its gameplay is incredible. But that absolutely doesn’t excuse its use of tired, sexist plot devices.

@femfreq Wtfru talking about? Zelda's no damsel. She's Link’s badass, magical, genius royal military Commander who 1-ups him at every turn. -
.
@femfreq She may be sidelined, but she's not in distress: she has more important things to do. -
.
@femfreq Zelda's only waiting 'cuz she's matched Triforce-for-Triforce with the Ultimate Evil & the guy bringing the other one nearly died. -
.
@femfreq She's contained said evil single-handedly for 100 years, while Link snoozes on the job then spends the game playing catch-up. -
.
@femfreq Then Zelda( spoilers!) finishes Ganon off at the end. She wears the pants here( literally!)—& she's not the only powerful woman. -
.
@femfreq All the smartest characters & several of the strongest are female, & there's even an Amazon-like race that considers men useless. - 3 more replies

this is utterly absurd. Zelda is single Handed holding Ganon at bay at the start of game! Whilst all other "champions" failed
-
including Link!
-
yeah but that would require
@femfreq to actually acknowledge a males active role in something meaningful ;) -
no. I meant that Link failed as well.

In the least spoilery way possible: did you finish the game?
-
I did and... I still think it's problematic.
-
May I ask how?
-
I will struggle a bit to explain this in english but in this world wwere they understand Ganon-cycle and prepare for it 1/X
-
for centuries. I think we should found a Zelda more able to fight. And it could still be hard for her to handle her role.
-
So you think BotW is sexist because Zelda wasn't playable?
-
no, that's not how I feel. she could have been more enpowered. and still be a NPC
-
If it's just about empowerment I guess we just have differing perspectives. To me, she's crazy powerful.
