It’s always disappointing to read tabletop game instruction manuals that constantly refer to the player as “he” and “him”.

@femfreq Even the equivocating "him or her" is disappointing as trans-erasing. EMBRACE "THEM," COPYEDITORS!

@gemini6ice @femfreq I've had so many arguments with people who insist "them" is plural. Like that's more important than inclusiveness -_-

@ZoeBogner @femfreq cranky prescriptivists are not exactly a marginalized group; grammar that alienates them isn't a big sin in my book

@ZoeBogner (FWIW, I am someone who does see value in grammatical consistency and rules. But they should adjust, as scientific models do.)

@femfreq We alternate genders of players and GMs in our books, because it bugs me so much. In fact, we probably lean a bit toward female.

@ShannaGermain @femfreq Aside from the in-setting reasons in Eclipse Phase, that’s another reason why we use singular they in it!

@femfreq Malifaux is an entire tabletop miniatures game system which is written with the player as she. It's been 100% positive for us too!

@femfreq there are some that exclusively use feminine pronouns. What would be the ideal? To use him or her each time? #legitimatelyasking

@PWDecker @thayelf @femfreq Context makes the use of the "singular they" clear. Start with a neutral "the player/attacker/defender" etc.

@femfreq a lot of indie designers are combatting this age-old horseshit. We tried to in Dungeon World.
