It's simple. Filmmakers: START GIVING TRANS ROLES TO TRANS ACTORS. Cis actors: STOP TAKING TRANS ROLES! Trans parts aren't your shot at a transformative Oscar-winning performance, not while Hollywood continues to overlook and marginalize trans actors.https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/3/17531254/scarlett-johansson-trans-man-rupert-sanders-rub-and-tug …

so trans actors should get to play trans roles AND cis roles ...but cis actor are only supposed to play cis roles ? how is that not discriminating ?

In an imaginary utopian world where trans actors weren't marginalized, it might not matter. But the reality right now is that trans actors are the ones being discriminated against, that juicy trans roles are given to cis actors again and again and again and again and again and ag

In an IDEAL WORLDS, yes. But it is not what happens. In an IDEAL WORLD there would be no need for feminism either, so we act based on what happens in the real world. In the real world there was not even a single male cis actor who played a trans man.

It's almost like the people paying millions of dollars to make a movie want to put a person in it that people like so they don't lose a bunch of money. Name a trans actor who is more likely to make the movie successful than Scarlett Johansson.

To the Filmmakers side, I'd add "consider trans actors for roles that aren't explicitly trans" and say "Writers: write complex and interesting characters that aren't explicitly gendered in the script (a la Alien) to facilitate broader casting calls."

Name 5 well-known trans-actors. Actually no, I'll make it easier: name ONE. Actors are hired to do a job, some of them arent going to be good/suited for the part. Its not discrimination, its business. Most employers arent going to risk it just for brownie points.

The biggest actress in the world is in a movie shining a light on an issue you care about. People will go to see this movie just because she is in it. Trans issues will get to a bigger mainstream audience because of this. You just won the lottery and you’re too stupid to realise.

Being an actor and trance, does not a necessarily a good actor make. Give roles to good actors, not the people who claim they have a right to them... Easy and correct.
