We are deeply saddened by the passing of Anthony Bourdain, who brought a political lens to the world of food and encouraged viewers to see their shared humanity with people around the world while celebrating the wonderful things that make our cultures unique.pic.twitter.com/qxNDX9IVOs

Celebrating other cultures?! Isn't that cultural appropriation? 🤔

No, those are two completely separate concepts.

What Asher said. Food is a product that is literally produced to be consumed. Paying people to sample their cuisine is not cultural misappropriation. A good rule of thumb is asking yourself, “Am I giving back to this culture a value commiserate with what I am getting from them?”

I see... So if he bought a taco from a Mexican it's fine, but if he bought one from a guy from Malawi or made it himself, then that's wrong? I think I'm getting it now. This stuff can get pretty confusing.

I don't know what you're talking about BUT the basic idea is - it's great to ENJOY a culture, it's bad when you TAKE things from that culture for your own while not respecting it. Like dressing up as a native american for Halloween, but then being racist and violent towards them.

I also think it depends what you are taking from a culture. Stereotypical images/dress/food that has negative connotations, maybe stay away from. Religious/sacred/important icons and images, maybe stay away from.

Don’t know much about this guy but i will say this SJWs have no right to talk about the passing of people until they apologise about the shit they said after total biscuit died I’m sure Anthony was a good or decent person but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re hypocrites
