Info on the emergency alert test: 🔹It’s a nationwide test of the same system that pushes public emergency messages like AMBER alerts 🔹Presidential Alerts are only for national emergencies 🔹FEMA & @FCC are testing to ensure it will work when needed FAQ: http://fema.gov/emergency-alert-test …pic.twitter.com/FBC1AF7oHY

A graphic showing a smartphone that has an emergency alert displayed on the screen that says Presidential Alert. Text says "Nationwide Wireless Emergency Alert Test will begin at 2:18 pm EDT on September 20, 2018". The FEMA and FCC logos are on the bottom.

More things to know: the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system is used to send public safety info through mobile carriers. It's overseen by @FEMA & @FCC. This is different from a text message, and your phone number is not shared with anyone. https://www.fema.gov/frequently-asked-questions-wireless-emergency-alerts …

There are 3 types of WEA messages (established by WARN Act in 2006): 1. Extreme weather and other threatening emergencies 2. AMBER Alerts 3. Presidential Alerts Presidential Alerts are the only type that can be used nationwide, and are meant for a national emergency.

We don’t need presidential alerts! We already have public emergency alert messaging. This is not necessary! We should be able to opt out of these messages. Wth would he have to say that local agencies can’t. No!

It’s actually part of the EAS from what I remember. It’s called “Presidential Alert” but it’s basically the EAN messages that go through with that priority. It’s not an actual outlet for Trump Tweets (fortunately).

We already have EAS in place for emergency messaging & we have Amber Alerts. There’s no need for Presidential texts. He’s already proven through his horrendous, lying tweets that he can’t be trusted to text actual facts. He abuses every outlet available to him for his own purposes

The unfortunate “Presidential Alert” category is actually the EAS. I remember this from my old research on how EANs were managed on wireless. It seems that the actual authority for these is managed by FEMA, not the Orange Terror. Found this earlier today.pic.twitter.com/T4zWFJofHc

This FEMA layer overseeing the texts would be Director Brock Long who is under investigation & who also went on tv to defend trump lies about the Hurricane Maria PR death toll by saying domestic abuse could account for deaths from said hurricane? I hope you’re right, but Idk.

It’s to save and help you! But seems like some people would rather put the lives of those they love at risk bc of hatred. Then they try to preach love when their actions depict hatred. Love>Hate any day.

Some of us have issues with any noise, much less loud, causing MAJOR problems at work if not an emergency.

Do u have problems with amber alerts? Police sirens? Church bells? Calls for help? Cell phone rings bc someone is trying to get a hold of you? Tv noise? Music on your IPod? I could care less if it helps people & keeps them safe (even if I don’t ‘like’ them) Love>Hate

This is different than anything you’ve mentioned. Have we ever needed a nationwide alert? If there is an earthquake in CA, I don’t need trump sending me an alert about it in VA. Those in MN don’t need an alert texted to them about a hurricane in NC. This is infuriating.
