In any case I suspect that
@CorbettNYT, rather than@puiwingtam, is the person who's ultimately going to decide this questionShow this thread -
Here’s a recent example of a NYT article happily quoting someone pseudonymously. https://twitter.com/johntabin/status/1275320017589014528?s=21 …https://twitter.com/johntabin/status/1275320017589014528 …

My hope and expectation is that in this case there was some misunderstanding about the degree of discretion that the NYT has in such cases, and that it will all be cleared up without any doxxing being necessary

Also just because my mentions are filling up with conspiracy theorists, I do NOT believe that this has anything to do with Scott Alexander’s beliefs, profession, etc. This isn’t some institutional game of gotcha that the NYT is playing, it’s cockup and not conspiracy.

UPDATE: NYT spokesperson emails: "We do not comment on what we may or may not publish in the future. But when we report on newsworthy or influential figures, our goal is always to give readers all the accurate and relevant information we can."

the policy is "we hurt people we don't like, we protect people we do like"

According to Scott, the article is apparently generally positive towards him.

That seems like the
@nytimes is violating@Twitter policy against doxxing:https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/personal-information … -
No, because Twitter doesn't consider saying someone's name to be doxxing.
