It remains to be seen if South Korea will actually do anything in the way of making future incidents less likely and/or less deadly. Romania sure didn't do a thing in the (exactly) 7 years since the Colectiv disaster. Heck, our *hospitals* burn down with alarming regularity.

Can't help but notice that the President of South Korea went to the disaster site right away, dressed in a paramedic(?) uniform, and never blamed the victims, or anyone else.
Yes, it can happen anywhere. What matters is how we handle it. Do we want to solve problems or not?

Crossposting to other platforms like Webtoon and Tapas is a good idea (get those extra eyes on your work), but you should always have some sort of hub site that's fully under your control so the platforms can't screw you over.

Google search is becoming one of those dying malls. You still go there out of habit, but once you get there, none of it is what you want. You can remember when it was a useful place to visit, but now it's weirdly hollow and you leave without getting what you came for

sensitivity check: is the TV-Tropes-ism "Sci Fi Ghetto" to mean the cultural stigmatisation of SF problematic? Not asking whether or not it's accurate, just whether it's Bad to use the word. (Validest opinions will be from members of groups who've been literally ghettoised)

The saddest thing for me about modern tech’s long spiral into user manipulation and surveillance is how it has just slowly killed off the joy that people like me used to feel about new tech. Every product Meta or Amazon announces makes the future seem bleaker and grayer. 1/n

Yesterday, I attended a conference at which an influential financier shared this unpublished map. Look at it. The estimated death toll is 2-3 *billion*; the timeframe is 20-30 years (previously: 50). Segments of the elite have simply 'written off' large parts of the Global South.

On pourrait le renommer Microsoft/Parasite ou ça serait un pléonasme ?

@github copilot, with "public code" blocked, emits large chunks of my copyrighted code, with no attribution, no LGPL license. For example, the simple prompt "sparse matrix transpose, cs_" produces my cs_transpose in CSparse. My code on left, github on right. Not OK.
