Maybe the reason a lot of techies have a distrust of regulations and assume governments to be incompetent is that... they live in the bay area 🤔

I grew up in a place with a surprisingly functional state & local governments.

From the authors of the cookies law, now in your meetings: GDPR! IMHO it's a quite global phenomenon, we could make a wiki with thousands of entries, for each country.

The stereotype that ‘people in tech think government doesn’t work’ makes a lot more sense when you live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I don’t think it’s limited to the Bay Area. In 4 out 4 counties / continents I have lived in the past 8 years, regulations have slowed down innovation and have cultivated the culture of lobby-ism, either legally or through hidden alleyways for corruption.

And yet they continue to vote the incompetent into office. Who then is the fool?

Many of the problems are structural - political fragmentation, or the property tax system. The system is set up to fail.
