Uhhh... same or worse happens in real life, especially business and especially Silicon Valley where forget heroes, it's more cult leader status conferred to some entrepreneurs. But I understand your gripe. I'd say it's more human nature than any particular walk of life
Credit assignment inside large companies works completely differently than in academia. It has its issues, but it's way more aware of the collective nature of progress and way more results-oriented (instead of "only thing that matters is who first did something kinda similar").
I disagree. When you publish your names on it. Increasingly there is open science. In private companies it's rank still gets pulled often. Hierarchy still huge in enterprise. Cult of the CEO. Look at the data, compensation...
Funny, bc I spent most of my career in private sector, am making a transition to academia. And I think you're the opposite. Ultimately though I think there are good and bad workplaces on both sides. We got to encourage merit and collaboration.
