I think that when people depend on you, you should do your best to protect them. This applies on an individual level, and it applies to companies as well. I believe that big tech companies, which billions of people rely on, should have a top-level priority to protect their users.

Yes, but big tech is a euphemism for monopoly. I understand the sentiment that an ethical, responsible, and educated monopolist seems better than an unethical, corrupt, and populist democratically elected government. But this sentiment has, for good reasons, no good reputation.

Our elected representatives are responsible to design and establish a mindful legal framework that forces big tech (and other monopolists) to act ethically and in our interest. This is called regulation and should not have such a bad reputation (probably lack of mindfulness...)
