So tired of the intense negativity around the tech industry. One bad actor doesn't mean everyone else is the same. "You're all just as bad" is the laziest of takes -- pundits getting to feel smugly superior without having to think about the nuances of reality.

The tech industry has tons of problems, but on the whole, it is yielding huge benefits for the greatest amount of people. I believe tech is one of the few sectors where people are actually trying to change things for the better. Tech is more than a business.

And remember, negativity is easy, building products is hard. But one maker has still more impact than a thousand naysayers.

Isn't the solution to hold bad actors you know about accountable, change the system where needed, then change yourself if needed, before getting frustrated with the public?

I get that, but I also get their position. Shared identities are a commons. From the inside, it's easy for us to say, "not all tech!" To split into "bad" and "good", with ourselves as good. But from the outside, it gets summed up.

What is "good tech" doing to reduce the harm of "bad tech"?

Why don't you write a short post explaining why Google is not evil? How is it substantially different from Facebook?

The reality is that tech industry needs regulation.

Explain this: So tired of the intense negativity around the blockchain industry. One bad actor doesn't mean everyone else is the same. "You're all just as bad" is the laziest of takes -- pundits getting to feel smugly superior without having to think about the nuances of reality.

Google is on the "bad actor" side though. Even if you excuse all the other tech companies.
