A tool I really like for this is http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ . I use it generally but for the ideation phase it's good because it nudges you towards the kind of simplicity in language that births useful abstractions.

I think writing in its true sense is itself a form of thinking and cannot be separated from thinking.. True writing is meditative, reflective, creative, a process of discovery, wonder, awe and learning.. True writing is not just communicative but also expressive..
