yeah. for eg: earth is round, newton's laws etc. all those basic foundations. seem simple and obvious today but 200-300 years ago, not so much. Is that what you meant @fchollet ??
It can be retrospectively simple but still only happen in a century. Simple != obvious. Often, elegant and simple ideas are the result of a long and winding research journey
