I wish we could post read-only tweets: no replies, not quote-tweets. Replies very rarely add value. @jack @sriramk please?

Twitter has highly adversarial reply dynamics. It's a playground for trolls, and often even awakens the latent troll in regular people. Like news sites with unmoderated replies, it gives an audience to the most toxic, agenda-driven posters. We need to be able to opt-out of that.

Lots of replies to these tweets are along the lines of: "you arrogant fascist, why do you hate discussion and debate and free speech". I find immense value in open discussions, but seriously, if you think that's how Twitter replies are used, we must not be using the same app.

I see your point, but it most probably will drive intelligent arguments into remission and make Twitter's sphere of influence less open.

Two ways r-o tweets become unhelpful. Quote-retweet chains would replace reply-threads and someone's going to write a bot that'll make it easier to read anyway. Second, no one can rebut an utter-garbage and false tweet amplifying the echo chamber effect even more.

Replies very rarely add value? Maybe instead of constantly grandstanding & making statements with every tweet we ask questions of each other instead, far harder to disagree/troll a question than a statement

          1. You posted several great threads lately, why not a regular blog + notifications in Twitter? 2. We are invisible, why not just pretend we don't exist? We are insignificant 3. I'll not reply more, but RT w/ comment. I'm very sorry for that & this:https://twitter.com/trylks/status/979429969251233794?s=19 …

Here's the "peer review" nobody asked for. https://www.diigo.com/annotated/79abb06aeecc2e573767c6f3f6110d47 … The tool is better than the reviewer, but most peers would have chosen to write their own post so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Twitter is a conversation driven platform. The last thing I want is a bunch of nerds voicing their opinions without giving me the opportunity to voice my own against theirs.

A big problem, agreed. But it’s not replies that cause it per se. See Quora for example. Twitter is the most toxic, with paid trolls, bots, Russian weaponization etc
