It may make you sound Very Important in 2018, but it *will* sound pretty ridiculous in 100 years. Let's treat AI as science and engineering, not as some kind of mystical art.
If you can sketch out what an AGI would be, how it would work, & what would make it dangerous -- the way a physicist might have sketched out the A-bomb in the early 1930s -- I'll worry about it. Until then, I'll worry about the actual, describable risks of ML applications

I am tempted to be on the fence about these things, yet - for good or ill - I mostly err on the side of caution. There's AI and then there's GAI. Would superintelligence not be necessarily mystical to us, i.e. by its very nature in relation to our inability to comprehend it?
You are so right, but at this stage without theory of DL, it is pretty much Alchemy!
Science and particularly engineering assumes a level of understanding and certainty that we aren't surprised with the outcome. DL by contrast leads to unexpected results, compound that with very weak theory. It's 21st century alchemy.
History has shown that megalomaniacal religious fundamentalists in politics do exist that view the world as their private realm of dominion. One can no longer denied that the science and engineering in AI has be abused in psychological operations and elections around the world.
