"We Alchemists are coming close to creating the Philosopher's Stone, the most impactful achievement of mankind -- maybe making everyone immortal, maybe wiping out all life. We know it's very dangerous, but we're committed to making it happen safely!" --16th century proto-chemist

If you can sketch out what an AGI would be, how it would work, & what would make it dangerous -- the way a physicist might have sketched out the A-bomb in the early 1930s -- I'll worry about it. Until then, I'll worry about the actual, describable risks of ML applications

Which are plenty, are largely absent from the public debate, in large part because of PR campaigns to make sci-fi scenarios that are profoundly disconnected from reality sound believable and scary. That discrepancy and the fear-mongering around AI are worrying in their own right

I am tempted to be on the fence about these things, yet - for good or ill - I mostly err on the side of caution. There's AI and then there's GAI. Would superintelligence not be necessarily mystical to us, i.e. by its very nature in relation to our inability to comprehend it?

Science and particularly engineering assumes a level of understanding and certainty that we aren't surprised with the outcome. DL by contrast leads to unexpected results, compound that with very weak theory. It's 21st century alchemy.

History has shown that megalomaniacal religious fundamentalists in politics do exist that view the world as their private realm of dominion. One can no longer denied that the science and engineering in AI has be abused in psychological operations and elections around the world.

AI is not implemented in real life as it should really be right now. The development of AI slowly splits in two directions. Tool and Science Demand in first use case appears, but gap in understanding should be closed, because AI-science is too far away from consumer

Correct. It's a technical matter, not scientology or philosophy. Those without Comp Sci education should not have a say on it at all.
