This would be good, and clearly motivating for an individual involved in this work, but is there actually any general way to align the profit motive of businesses with the idea of users being in charge of their data and the algorithms?

Excuse my ignorance, but I believe it's possible. I mean, if Facebook's idea is to catch and keep people's attention for as long as possible... Why make them consume crappy content, when they could consume whatever content they wanted and FB would still profit, right?

1/2 Need open social platforms giving users AI powered Vendor Relationship Management tools to protect them from Corporate AI powered marketing & research tools. There will never be a perfect balance, but much like the virus vs antivirus world, users will have a fighting chance

2/2 I can't see any alternatives other than: (a) Heavy legislation (This is almost always too late and badly crafted.) (b) Do nothing and hope Corps will see the light and stop taking advantage of consumers. This is a futile dead end. Any ideas?
