Some of them have been used for a long time in advertising (e.g. positive/negative social reinforcement), but in a very weak, un-targeted form. From an information security perspective, you would call these "vulnerabilities": known exploits that can be used to take over a system.

Can you address what could/would happen if a player with more knowledge of psychological manipulation suddenly had access to 50M profiles, lots of money and a very engaging context. Could they put Facebook itself within a RL loop? "Shape the narrative" ---> "Shape the newsfeed"

Facebook is easily the worst culprit in all of this shit. It is not the only digital panopticon by any stretch of the imagination though. The company you work for is a culprit in all of this too. FB just happens to be the most eager to create the panopticon bc of their product.

What's been shocking, in listening to Parscale discuss micro-targeting ads and info, is how important little things are like the color of icons, push-buttons, backgrounds, etc. In many ways, even the simple stuff is super powerful.

The ties of Cambridge Analytica to Hong Kong, Erik Prince & Chinese intelligence are also incredibly interesting. China wants to rule the world through just this type of AI-based psychological manipulation. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/the-latest-cambridge-analytica-links-to-blackwater-founder/2018/03/21/255bd508-2cf9-11e8-8dc9-3b51e028b845_story.html …
