A good chunk of the field of AI research (especially the bits that Facebook has been investing in) is about developing algorithms to solve such optimization problems as efficiently as possible, to close the loop and achieve full control of the phenomenon at hand. In this case, us

We’re looking at a powerful entity that builds fine-grained psychological profiles of over two billion humans, that runs large-scale behavior manipulation experiments, and that aims at developing the best AI technology the world has ever seen. Personally, it really scares me

It’s no longer just a case of targeting ads towards customers. Their aim is to target customers towards products/politicians. We need adversarial filters/agents for consumers. Something I’ve been thinking about for a bit. Use of AI doesn’t have to be one sided.

Interesting idea. Just as Tor intends to counter surveillance, this would counter the AI optimization loop mentioned by

Someone - I think it was
@KimDotcom - once theorized that#Facebook was a Trojan Horse concocted by malevolent#DeepState actors to dupe the population into spying/informing on themselves. More and more I think it's a valid theory.#FacebookGatepic.twitter.com/3if6Fra8e4

Great message, but have to point out that FB's product is not a newsfeed. Like all advertising based media, FB's product is us--people--and their customer is advertisers. Their overt manipulation is to aimed to keep us using it. The covert goal is, well, covert. AI helps both.
