AI researchers are not better than nuclear physicists like Oppenheimer, and their moral and ethical responsibilities not fewer either. That the field is a wild wild west is not working in their favor either, because all scientists get to learn that ethics are for their own good.

I'm sure the people at FAIR and Facebook AML also have the same opinion of their work that Francois has about his and Google's. Bias and a pedestal doesn't make Google's work any better.
Rationalization: if I don't do it, someone else will do it. If less people do it, salaries will be higher (market).

How is Google different though? With Gmail/Hangouts (personal communications), Maps (location data), Adsense/Analytics (web navigation data), Google has comparable access to sensitive user data. What are Google AI researchers enabling?
