Before you @ me with "actually decentralization": if you're a techno-libertarian, you should care about the decentralization of *power*. If BTC were to be adopted as a major currency (it won't) it would dramatically *centralize* power into the hands of a handful of rent seekers

Agreed, and that's a major problem of bitcoin. The tangle technology and other ideas try to solve that issue. I doubt any of the current cryptos will survive for longer than a few decades, but there's no reason to discard the possibility of such new technology being developed.
