I think successful tech solves problems that people have, in a way that's clearly superior to previous alternatives. Blockchain is a solution in search of a problem.

Like "Autonomous Robots are going to kill us" right now. I don't think it's useful to judge any trend by the loudest voices in the community. Research output, practical uses, generalization/specificity, fault tolerance, and others are all better metrics.
