If a garbage truck follows its crew down a street at walking pace, stopping when they do, but is then manually controlled to drive to the depot, is that L4 or L5 autonomy, or neither?

Horses could follow the driver as he walked down the street. They could avoid collisions, sometimes.
Horses could get you to destination while you were asleep in the back of the car, on roads they had learned. They were autonomous vehicles, with some significant limitations.
