Until the average person is well-educated and well-informed, you will always have a dysfunctional political system. I agree that free high-quality education for all would be costly to implement, but rich economies can afford it. In fact, I think they can't afford not to do it

Educating the average person in high quality ways of thought will only lead to an even more dysfunctional political system. Progress will be very difficult if not impossible. Look at the Sage Wars of Crypto.

Google does quite a lot on that front, and not just in the US. https://www.google.org/our-work/education/ …

It is a very naive assumption that educated folks don’t fall for propaganda. Remember ‘Weapons of mass destruction’ propaganda.

It’s an extraordinarily naive belief that education itself isn’t propaganda. Or that the United States is a democratic society.

Perhaps. However some of the most regressive, illiberal policies are perpetuated by the very well educated. For example, land-use regulations, 529 college savings, and the mortgage interest deduction.

I feel the same way - although recently I've been surprised with the direction England has headed, since the education system seems pretty good there. (My comment is entirely anecdotal and may be totally wrong - interested in hearing more informed views)

Sweden have free education for all, the problem is that not enough kids take advantage of it, they dont study hard enough to qualify for higher education

There has never been a better time than today to be an autodidact, but that doesn't mean people have the time, energy or need. What makes you think the "average person" has the means or the inclination to meet your criteria for being "well-educated" / "well-informed"?
