I know @fchollet has pointed this out before - but the machinelearning subreddit really is an embarrassment to the community, full of gate-keeping and toxicity, with little insight.
What should be done? Create a new subreddit? Just ignore it?

Google Brain / etc hosting AMAs on /r/ml is *not a good look*. Misogyny and racism are pretty mainstream on there, but even beyond that, you still have intense toxicity, gate-keeping, name-calling, personal attacks...

One would think that this is due to the anonymity. However, I've seen this same kind of behavior in some AI focused groups in Facebook. I've seen it fixed though with vigilant moderators. It doesn't help though if the moderator himself is a jerk.
