If you make any sort of product where the end user makes the purchase/adoption decision, the biggest mistake you can make is to be competitor-focused instead of user-focused. Listen to your users and address their needs; don't try to stay "cool" by cloning the latest and greatest

As a user I was at times interviewed, (UX, design thinking), my concerns didn't make it through the synthesis steps however which generalized the issues until they lost all meaning.

So, when "understanding their need" make sure to not dilute the feedback until pain points of users aren't addressed any more.
