Simple rules can generate great complexity. But that complexity only arises when you execute the rules. To do so, you need a physical computer -- a CPU, a brain -- of great complexity. No free lunch.

In the end, the simple rules yielding a complex output do not create complexity out of nothing, they channel complexity extracted from an external system

Maybe this is sophistic, but it's a fun hypothesis when applied to the universe: however simple the laws of physics may turn out to be, whatever system is executing them (bringing the universe into existence) must have greater complexity than the output universe

Yes but this would be in a simulated scenario, as there is a structure running the physical laws and this structure doesn't depend on it's simulation.

nature/universe is intelligent. Much easier to start with simplicity & birth complexity than complex to simple

This is, in essence, my thought about the brain. The Universal learning algorithm is likely quite simple, once discovered. However, the brain's complexity is well-known and could probably lead to more advanced computer engineering.

If this is right, which is the universe creating all the subject matter for movies? Real world?? If this were true, why are there are so many (young) people aspiring for a life that’s like what they see in a movie?

Good circularity arguments. Wherever you try to break you get caught. Even those who want only to feel, see, have emotions. There is unavoidable complexity: its consciousness, the sense that brings the asking for meaning and then leads to physics, LTU machines, Dark energy, Tao🤗pic.twitter.com/d2JBGhbtdM

why must there be a system executing the laws of the universe? how anthropomorphic, van-neumannian an assumption is that? why must the universe be a computation? we don't even understand the arrow of time!
