Superhuman strength for lots of specialized moves via steam power does not equal machines with the motor capabilities of a human body. Lots of specialized algorithms (which have been around for a long time) does not equal humanlike intelligence.

I agree with that, but that's a very different claim. First, we can and should aim to solve many vertical problems with a small number of general approaches, not with lots of specialized algorithms.
