A lot of predictions for vehicle behavior in a fully autonomous world seem to imply no windows, to avoid terrifying the passengers. Freeways with no speed limits or lanes, for example.
If past experience has set expectations of high safety, that should be no more frightening than glancing through the window of a plane

I'm not sure this is true. Everything in a plane is far away; a car merging right in front of yours is mere feet away. Plus car windows currently are much bigger than airplane windows, not to mention front-facing.
