If you post an argument online, and the only opposition you get is braindead arguments and insults, does it confirm you were right? Or is it just self-selection of those who argue online?

It could mean that the people who disagree with you think that they might suffer some kind of retribution or social stigma for disagreeing with you. It could mean that the people who disagree with you think the argument isn't worth their time.
