Some amount of power, combined with insecurity and low self-esteem. The securely powerful don't bully.

I don't think that's correct. They lack compassion (but not empathy), are sociopathic. Enjoy power and aggression. Not necessarily insecure.

I think those are the qualities you want them to have. Psychological weakness doesn't have to correlate with politics you find terrible. Often it's just different life experiences that produce different beliefs.
