the basis of intelligence is the ability to understand patterns. I think music speaks to this instinct.
What does 'understand' meant?
If we’re a kind of RNN with reinforcement learning then music allows prediction followed by reward. Inherently pleasurable. Also whodunnits.
Some animals entrain to rhythms, but not all. Birds often can, but e.g. cats can't. That suggests it's more than just predictability.
