The surprising bit to me is why FB backing would have such psychological power. I personally regard the FB brand as extremely toxic

Even if it's anecdotal, spent 3 days trying to make chainer converge vs PyTorch worked from first try and so far didn't give me any problems

FB is weird brand, but so far their open source projects succeeded over Google's. They are a lot more willing to listen to outside.
