I can't believe AWS has dropped Keras from its deep learning AMI and replaced it with a *long outdated* MXNet version (v1.2). What?

AWS is obsessed with customers. Keras 2.0 breaks the API. https://github.com/fchollet/keras/issues/6006 … It was never on the AMI! But you can pip install –U keras.

Keras 2 changed the API in a backwards compatible way (for public features). The Keras 1 API has been deprecated for over 6 months

Keras 2 is what people use. If you care about users, you should provide them with what they are looking for: the official Keras 2.0.8

In my book, I recommended the AWS DL AMI as a great way to get started. This forces me to change this recommendation

If you want Keras users to switch to a MXNet backend, you should submit a PR to Keras, like we did for CNTK. It was a fruitful collaboration

Trying to force users' hand will not work out in the long term. I'm sure you will agree
