I can't believe AWS has dropped Keras from its deep learning AMI and replaced it with a *long outdated* MXNet version (v1.2). What?

Amazon sponsored the adoption of mxnet into the Apache incubator. Really upsetting that they didn't include Keras in their AMI.
-
They do include Keras, but it's their own MXNet fork, following the old API we have deprecated in March. It doesn't make any sense.

I ended creating my own AMI with Keras pre-installed. It's publicly available just search for "deep-learning-for-computer-vision" in Oregon.

That's nice, maybe I'll edit my book to recommend your AMI instead! That, or Google Cloud ML Engine.

I've struggled with it as well. For example the TF Object Detection API won't run on it without fixing crazy dep issues...

Thankfully your book is still in MEAP state so that you can change it, but yeah that's annoying because it's almost done.
