In what world is "AI" limited to agents? If it were, less than 1% of AI folks would be working on "AI". And does a convnet have a goal?

"I'm working on AI" states a long-range goal, can't guarantee a viable strategy. "AI" label keeps going out of fashion b/c it over promises.

No. That's ML. The creeping expansion of "AI" is part of what got us in this mess.

ML is adaptive. AI has goals. 99% of programming fits neither description.

Most of what "AI" researchers do is further down the stack from intentional agents, like biologists who study proteins.

But there's nothing wrong with saying biology is the study of life, just because proteins aren't alive. Same as saying AI is study of goals.
