If we understand how our source code (DNA) implements intelligence, and if we can edit it, do we become recursively self-improving machines?

Of course, the short answer is no -- there would be rather limited potential for recursive self-improvement, much like with human-level AGI.
Or, much like current AI (e.g. discrete search, like genetic programming) isn't able to come up with a much better version of itself

Why? Any math or computing theory limit? Too much high dimensional search space?

My intuition said that this limit would have effect in a classic algorithm not in a quantum one.
