If you want to debate AI risk, you don't have to invoke fictive demons. Then again, perhaps the story won't sell as well
And if you want to debate existential threats, you can look at nuclear weapons, antibiotic resistance, climate change...

Concerning enough, some sci-fi is transformable into real technology, some not as effective as imagined others incredibly successful.
