I would disagree, the US strikes me as having a very anti-intellectual culture compared to other first-world countries, or China

I think many Americans dissociate innovation and intellectualism.

US pragmatism: smart=shorter path to $$. More intellectual cultures are "classier", profess to love knowledge for itself. Only pretence? IDK
