It's clearly possible to have very abstract & long-running thoughts without language. But these thoughts seem impossible to store & recall.

This leads to 2 killer apps of language: 1) generalizing this recall ability to *other people*, i.e. communication, and 2) external storage
Which is typically writing, albeit many other forms of storage are of course possible
